| "The abolition of war, far from being an Utopian dream, is a realistic objective for leaders and citizens alike, and, as never before, the development of effective alternatives to the threat or use of force in international relations must be treated not only as imperative but as being closely linked with the prospect of human survival and hope in the future of humanity." So if we are to have peace in the World, what is our role to be? I was thinking about Peace today and wondering what the opposite of PEACE is. At first I thought is was "confusion" but then I asked myself, "What is behind the confusion?" ; and discovered that it was "insecurity" ; and behind that was "FEAR " When I was discussing this with Morrie on our walk this evening and he felt that behind even the FEAR there was aggression. However, it seems to me that aggression arises out of FEAR. If we are all running around exhibiting the symptoms of FEAR then it seem incumbent on us to ... to ... What can we do? We could: eliminate the FEAR?; alter the FEAR?; ground the FEAR?; ignor the FEAR?; fight the FEAR?; accept the FEAR?; or maybe we should just -- WATCH THE FEAR?
Sometimes! Other times it's like a tidal wave that overwhelms me with its power. So what to do then? -- Well, I try to focus on just one thing at times like that. I try to remember to ask myself, "What would be the compassionate thing to do?" Sometime it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't I try to remember not to do myself any more violence than has already been done. I try to just "pick myself up dust my self off ... and start all over again!"
If we, on an individual level, can deal with our own fear then the nations we belong to will have the strength to deal with their fear. Since the seems, presently, to be an amazing amount of energy being focused on the turn of the millenium, then why not focus on that time and that period and hone our skills to bring PEACE into this world. I have gathered a list of links here of people on the Net who decided to make that their focus as well. A thought before leaving. |
